Greetings. I’m Niall (thus the name Nyl – ophone, which I was told was a bad name since no one can spell it, but oh well… too late now).

I’m from Wicklow, Ireland and the genres that I hear applied to my music most frequently are: Indie, Dream Pop, Alternative and Bedroom Pop.

I love pop music in the broad sense and that’s what I set out to make (when I say “broad sense”, I’m pretty much including Death Metal as pop though, so perhaps my definition is too broad).

More specifically, 60’s music by the likes of Del Shannon and The Beach Boys, and the combination of a bittersweet and alienated theme with upbeat music gets me nearly every time. More contemporary acts I think do this well would be Alvvays or Ariel Pink.

I started releasing music in 2020 after Covid 19 put an end to my job teaching piano and guitar and so far so good. My music has been on the RTE Recommends list a few times, got featured on David Dean Burkharts Compact Cassette, and got a bit of coverage in a few outlets such as Totally Dublin, The Thin Air, Golden Plec and others listed below.

I might come back and flesh out this bio sometime, but if there’s anything else you’d like to know in the meantime feel free to send me a message via the contact section of the site.

“Wistful vocals and trickling acoustics, often set against a backdrop of synths and strings. The result is a fully engaging sound”

Vibrant fingerpicked guitar plucks through a dreamy haze of gorgeous vocals, slide, trumpets and melodies”

Beautiful acoustic and electric guitar parts intertwine. Woods’ voice soothes, floating effortlessly over everything and every note and word evokes a new feeling.

Nylophone has released a handful of diverse and equally interesting singles, ranging from psychedelic trips to other blissed-out folk. It makes his potential upcoming record something to really look forward to

“A deft and delicate sound which bequeaths a bathing sense of calm as the snowdrops push through.”
